Where they live

The unread count sits on your own face. Your avatar is at the foot of the sidebar, and a small blue dot appears on it the moment something is waiting, whether the sidebar is open or collapsed to the rail.

Open the menu from the ⋯ beside your name, and the Notifications row carries the same count as a number. Press it and the list opens: what happened on the first line, what it happened to underneath, and how long ago on the third. With nothing waiting it says you are all caught up.

Notifications follow your account, not the brand you are looking at. An invitation from one company still reaches you while you are working in another.

An invitation, and a brand you were given

An invitation to join a company arrives here as well as in Settings, then Team, naming who asked and which company. Nothing of yours is shared with anybody until you accept it. Being given a brand inside a company you are already in applies straight away, so that one is a line telling you it happened. If somebody you invited declines, you are told that too, so you know rather than wonder.

Being added to a space sends nothing

Somebody adding you to a space, or handing a session to the whole team, does not send you anything today. The space turns up in your sidebar under Spaces and its sessions in Recents, which is the only notice you get.

A bug report you filed

A report you sent moves through our hands, and each move that concerns you sends a line: when we start on it, and when it is resolved or closed another way. The first part of what you wrote comes with it, so you know which report is being talked about when you have filed several.

Unread and read

Opening the list marks everything in it read at once, and the dot on your avatar clears with it. There is no per-item dismiss, and nothing is deleted: the rows stay, and the dot beside a title is only there to show you what was new when you opened it.
