Making one

Adding somebody to a session makes one too

Working with somebody happens in a space, so asking for that is how most spaces get made.

• Open the session's ⋯, in the sidebar or at the top of an open session, and choose Share session.
• Tick the people you want. A Space name field appears above them, filled in from the session's own name, and you can write over it.
• Press Share. The space is made, those people are in it, the session moves into it, and you land on the space's page.

Nobody is sent a notification. The space appears in their Spaces block and its sessions in their Recents, which is where they will find it.

Share session is offered on a session that is not already in a space. Once it is in one, People on the space's page is the door.

The blocks beside it

• Brief is what the campaign is: what it is for, what it must never say, which offer is running. Nomi writes it, and the pencil lets you rewrite it.
• Shelf is what the space holds. It appears once there is something on it.
• Generations is what the space's sessions have drawn. It shows the count and the newest few.
• People is who is in the room. The + adds a teammate, whoever made the space is marked Owner, and the bin beside anyone else takes them out.

The shelf fills itself

You never choose what a space knows. Every file and picture sent to any session in the space lands on the shelf under In this space, and every ad those sessions drew is listed under Made here.

A file Nomi cannot open yet, a PDF for instance, is kept and marked unread, so the shelf never implies something was read when it was not.

The shelf is on the space's page, and it is also inside every session in the space. The context button at the top of a session opens the panel, with the room's rows under whatever that session has of its own.

To use one of the pictures in your own session, point at its row in that panel and press the +. It joins your next message exactly as an attachment you had uploaded yourself would, so Nomi can look at it from your side of the room. Pictures can be taken this way, files cannot.

Moving sessions in and out

A session made anywhere else can be filed into a space afterwards.

• Open the session's ⋯ menu, in the sidebar or at the top of the session, and pick Move to….
• Or drag the session's row in the sidebar onto the space you want.
• No space, on that same menu, takes it back out.

A session that was readable by the whole team stops being readable by the whole team when it moves into a space, because from then on the space decides who reads it.

Branch a session that is in a space and the branch stays in the same space, so trying another angle does not put half the work somewhere nobody else is looking.

The sidebar draws a session in a space exactly like every other session, and Recents still lists it. The one place a space is named on a session is the top of the session itself, where the name is a link back to the space.

⌘K finds a space by name.

What Nomi knows inside a space

Nomi reads the space's brief at the start of every turn in a session that is in a space. So the campaign is not something you restate in each message, and it is not fixed at the moment the session started either: change the brief and the next thing anybody asks uses the new one.

Nomi writes that brief itself. Plan the campaign in a session in the space, and once there is enough to hand over it writes what was settled into Brief. It replaces what was there rather than adding to it, so the block stays one description of the campaign instead of a log, and that applies to your own edits as well.

It can also look at what the space's other sessions already made, so it does not offer you the angle that was turned down next door. What it reads there is the label on each ad and your verdict on it: the title, the angle, the hook, the audience, the format, the key message, and whether you voted it up or down. It does not look at the pictures.

A session that is not in a space is unchanged, and behaves exactly as it always did.

Who can see it

A space is visible to whoever made it and to the people added to it, and to nobody else. Being on the brand's team is not enough on its own: a colleague sees neither the space nor the sessions inside it until you add them in People.

Taking somebody out of a space takes away everything the space was giving them, the sessions filed in it included.

A session inside a space cannot also be handed to the whole team. There is no Share session on it, and asking for it another way is refused, because a room that anyone could publish out of would not be a room.

Archiving, and deleting

Archive is for a campaign that is over. It takes the space out of the sidebar and stops it taking new sessions, and everything in it stays exactly where it is and stays readable at its own address. ⌘K is the way back to an archived space, and it is the only place one is listed. Restore puts it back, from the space's own ⋯ menu or from the line the page shows in place of the message field.

Delete is for a space that should not have existed. Archiving and deleting are both for whoever made the space, because a space holds other people's conversations and being let into a room is not the right to close it or dissolve it.

Neither one destroys any work. The sessions, the ads and the documents survive both and simply stop being filed in that space.
